While dental implants are an excellent solution for the vast majority of patients, there are situations where implant placement must be postponed, adapted, or is not recommended. At the Longchamp Dental Clinic in Casablanca, we conduct a comprehensive pre-implant assessment to ensure that each patient is a good candidate for implantology.
Certain medical treatments: Patients receiving IV bisphosphonates (treatment for severe osteoporosis or bone metastases) have a high risk of osteonecrosis. Implant placement is generally not recommended.
Head and neck radiotherapy: Recent irradiation of the jaw can compromise bone vascularization and osseointegration.
Uncontrolled systemic diseases: Certain conditions, such as severe coagulation disorders or severe immunodeficiency, may contraindicate implantology.
Diabetes: Poorly controlled diabetes slows healing. Well-controlled diabetes is not a contraindication, but requires close monitoring.
Smoking: Smoking significantly reduces the success rate of implants (the risk of failure is multiplied by 2 to 3). We strongly recommend quitting smoking at least 2 weeks before and 3 months after placement.
Active Periodontitis: Periodontal disease must be treated before any implant placement to avoid peri-implantitis.
Insufficient Bone Volume: This is not a contraindication but requires a prior bone graft.
Before any decision is made, a complete assessment is carried out at the Longchamp Dental Clinic: 3D cone beam CT scan, bone analysis, and a medical and periodontal evaluation. This assessment allows us to identify all risk factors and establish a safe and appropriate treatment plan.
