Dental Bone Grafting in Casablanca: When and Why Is It Necessary?

Before placing a dental implant, one of the essential conditions is having sufficient bone volume in the jawbone. When this is not the case, a bone graft may be necessary. At the Longchamp Dental Clinic in Casablanca, we master all bone regeneration techniques to prepare your jawbone to receive implants under optimal conditions.

Why might bone be lacking?

Natural bone resorption: After the loss of a tooth, the jawbone begins to resorb gradually without stimulation. This process accelerates over time.

Severe periodontitis: Advanced periodontal diseases can destroy the bone around the teeth and leave significant defects.

Trauma or infection: An accident or a severe dental infection can lead to localized bone loss.

Available Bone Grafting Techniques

Autogenous graft: The bone is taken from the patient themselves (jaw, chin, or skull). This is the most natural solution but requires a second surgical site.

Allograft: Uses bone from a bone bank (a human donor), which is sterilized and certified. Avoids the need for a second harvesting site.

Xenograft: Bone of bovine origin (Bio-Oss), widely used and perfectly biocompatible.

Synthetic materials: Synthetic bone substitutes that serve as a scaffold for the regrowth of natural bone.

How long does it take after a graft?

Bone healing generally takes between 4 and 9 months, depending on the graft volume and the area treated. Once the bone has regenerated, implants can be placed under optimal conditions.

Is bone grafting painful?

Performed under local anesthesia, bone grafting is painless during the procedure. Post-operative effects (swelling, mild pain) are similar to those following an extraction and are managed with standard pain medication.
