One of the most frequent questions we receive at Clinique Dentaire Longchamp is: "Is it possible to get veneers without having my teeth removed?" The answer is nuanced. Here's what you need to know about so-called "no-prep" or "ultra-thin" veneers.
No-prep (or minimally prepared) veneers are ultra-thin ceramic veneers, 0.2 to 0.3 mm thick, which in some cases can be bonded without any prior tooth preparation. They are sometimes marketed under the brand name "Lumineers."
No-prep veneers are only suitable for patients with naturally small or slightly eroded teeth who want a minor correction of color or shape. They are not suitable for all cases.
In the vast majority of cases, slight grinding (0.3 to 0.5 mm) of the enamel is still necessary to ensure the correct veneer thickness, optimal adhesion, and a flawless aesthetic result.
Thick or Artificial Appearance: Without preparation, the veneer can make the tooth appear thicker and create an unnatural smile.
Gum Problems: A veneer that is too thick at the base can irritate the gums and cause chronic inflammation.
Poor Adhesion: Bonding to unprepared enamel is less reliable and can lead to premature detachment.
At Clinique Dentaire Longchamp, we evaluate each case individually. If a no-prep veneer is clinically indicated, we will recommend it. Otherwise, we recommend minimal preparation that preserves almost all of your natural enamel while ensuring an optimal and long-lasting result.
Our priority: your dental health first, aesthetics second.
